Iodine 125 seed

Radio-guided surgery with seeds is an innovative surgical technique using a titanium capsule containing iodine 125 (I125) to help in the removal of non palpable breast lesions, whether benign or suspicious candidates for excisional biopsy or confirmed as malignant.

Taking advantage of the radioactive emissions of iodine 125 (I125) and with the help of a manual gamma radiation detection probe, the exact portion of tissue is located in which the seed was previously inserted by means of a needle and is split up for histological study.
