Bladder Catheter

Catheter that is inserted through the urethra and placed in the bladder for emptying urine. It is a rubber tube with a balloon which, once situated in the bladder, is inflated with saline so that it remains fixed in place and does not exit.

It can be permanent or only required during the first days of admission or surgery. Besides collecting the urine, it can be used for bladder washes if there is bleeding by introducing saline through the catheter.
