Intense Modulated Radiation Therapy

This is a type of radiation therapy consisting of the use of multiple beams of radiation aimed directly at the tumor. The shape and intensity of the beams is calculated by optimization software that minimizes the dose of radiation affecting healthy tissue, but maximizing that hitting the tumor.

Advantages: The technique was a revolution in radiation therapy in the 90s, substantially reducing the toxicity of treatments and increasing local control of the disease in many part of the body.
